Music is the most complex manifestation of human culture, in which sound is manipulated through the structure of time to create an aesthetic experience. Etymologically, the word music comes from the Greek "mousike," which refers to the art of the Muses—the goddesses of inspiration in Greek mythology who ruled over literature, science, and the arts. As a discipline, music stands at the intersection of mathematics (due to the frequency ratios of notes) and the humanities (as emotional expression).
